âPissed offâ Alabama football players talk mindset after Texas loss
When Alabama football took the field to face Texas Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Crimson Tide came in as the favorite. One 34-24 loss later and UA has slipped in the top 25 polls and finds itself reeling ahead of a Saturday matchup with South Florida.
On Monday, Alabama guard Tyler Booker was asked about the team’s mindset entering the USF game.
“We’re pissed off,” Booker said. “I’m not gonna lie.”
Booker and the rest of Alabama’s offensive line struggled mightily against the Longhorns, giving up five sacks. The unit also had penalties that wiped out two touchdown passes that could have made it a closer contest.
Nick Saban said Monday that it would shock him if his team didn’t respond positively to the disappointing loss. Booker made it clear that the Crimson Tide doesn’t see the season as lost just two games in.
“There’s only ever been two undefeated teams win the national championship here at the University of Alabama,” Booker said. “All our goals are still attainable. We can still win the SEC West, we can still win the SEC. We can get a College Football Playoff spot. This was just a wake-up call for us and we’re all taking heed to what coach is saying.”
Saban said he wanted the team to execute more consistently. Defensively, he wanted more pressure on the quarterback and for his defensive backs to be better in coverage.
For outside linebacker Dallas Turner, that will come from Alabama doing what it always has.
“Just play to the standard honestly,” Turner said Monday. “We know we have a good team and we know the standard that we’re supposed to play to. So we just have to play to that standard in practice, walkthroughs, meetings, everything.”
Turner reiterated Booker’s point that the 2023 campaign isn’t over and the Crimson Tide still has a chance to rescue a successful year.
“It’s still early in the season, it’s Week 2,” Turner said. “We can’t let a game from Week 2 determine how our season’s going to be. There’s still a lot more things to look forward to.”
Alabama and USF are scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be aired on ABC.
